In today’s rushed and hectic lifestyle we tend to focus just on getting through today, just get the to-do items ticked off and then on to the next thing we go.
We have family, kids, work and social responsibilities that demand our attention every second, and as we go through our daily routines we are neglecting the bigger picture – what have you really achieved today, this week, this year?
It’s all good and well that we go through our day to day activities and get through all our tasks like a robot, but what if you added another dimension to your task list, like a goal or a target? What if you added items that would once completed, actually help you to achieve something, something more than just a completed task list.
What if you changed the way you look at your tasks and grouped them together to achieve more, like to learn something new daily, or perhaps create or develop a new way to report on statuses on your project.
What about making small changes to the way you and your team tackle complex issues on a project that reduce the team’s rework by 10%?
All these are still tasks but instead of being just a task you tick off, you now work towards a goal and in the end once completed, you achieve something on a daily basis. Pretty soon your to-do list will change into a goal list and when you are working on a goal list you will achieve way more than you would have if you were still just ticking boxes next to tasks that will only really help to get through the day.
So change your task list to be a list of tasks that works towards a goal and achieve something daily rather than just clearing your to-do list.
