In today’s rushed world, business and projects do not exist in isolation and as such they are also affected by the rush that we tend to do things in. Everything needs to happen yesterday and by tomorrow everything will have a different meaning than what it had yesterday.

In this mad rush it is easy to lose sight of what you are trying to achieve, and you tend to get lost in the overwhelming feeling that you are not getting anywhere or getting anything done.  You have 100 items to check and you are only at number 3, there is just not enough time in the day and you will have to work late again to get through this workload.

If this sounds familiar, then maybe it’s time you just slow it down a bit and apply some reverse logic, instead of thinking about the end, think about what you are going to do right now.  Try and create a task list or a to-do list of what you want to achieve.  Instead of touching multiple tasks or to-do items at a time focus on finishing one item at a time before moving on to the next.

By effectively slowing things down and focusing on the task at hand you are doing 2 things, you are not distracting yourself with the panic invoking thoughts of what still needs to be achieved, and you are forcing yourself to focus on the task at hand which will then have one desirable outcome and that is that you will actually complete your items faster and possibly still have enough time left in the day to be home at a decent time with minimal to no overtime work required.

When you overload your brain with thoughts of what still needs to be achieved today instead of the task at hand you are actually just wasting valuable time and brainpower and you are not getting things done. So instead of stressing about the impending deadline, rather slow things down a little and focus on the next immediate item to be completed.
